Basic Mechanical Properties of Material

List of some important mechanical properties:



Strength:
Definition 1: It is a mechanical property which enables materials to resist fracture under load.
Definition 2: the quality or state of being physically strong
Definition 3: the capacity of an object or substance to withstand great force or pressure.

Elasticity:
Elasticity is the property of material in which material deformed under the load but removal of load again return to original dimensions.

Ductility:
It the property of material in which it can be drawn in the form of wire under the action of tensile force.

Brittleness:
It the property of material in which it can not be drawn in the form of wire under the action of tensile force.
Eg: Glass, Cast iron etc.

Toughness:
It is the ability of material in which it can absorb energy without fracture
Malleability:
It is the property of material which permits the material to be extend in all direction without rupture.

Hardness:
It is the ability of material to resist indentation.Brinnell hardness testing machine is used to determine the hardness of material.
